Ah, well I did not infact know the business arangement between all the companies. So thank you for pointing that out. However doesn't NCsoft do all the customer service? This would lead me to think that they are the distributors of "information" back to the developers. At that point I would wonder who actually houses the servers. But end point was still the engine exists MMOs have used more complicated customizing engines. Since NCsoft still has its hands in both games, and I am pretty sure services themboth, I cant imagine licensing the engine at the minimum being anything but extremely easy to implement.

With GW being no-subscription, it has been my experience (and even awe in the good sense) at what technical hurdles have been crossed to make this game as easy and efficient to run as possible.
It takes time and $$$ to make character models, then it takes time to ensure everything else in the game gets sized the same way. Such as how wide can you make a "Courtly armor" jacket before it just loses all definition? When the buttons become just big squares? They would have to deal with that if they let you re-size your avatars. And that's just one piece of armor.
Everything in the game would have to be designed as a moldable model, with axis and stretchpoints (I'm not a modeler so I don't know the actual names) for how to morph objects to the appropriate size.
I can understand the requirement to have a more rigid customization to the avatars themselves. This saves time, which saves $$$, which means a game we can play without $15 or more a month in perpetuity.
However, the dye comments have been right on. I wish dyes dropped more frequently. I've actually managed to collect quite a bit (4 or more of each color except black & silver) from my and my wife's travels through Pre & Post-Sear Ascalon, but I could still use more if they want me to just dye stuff willy-nilly.
Of course, on my alt I'm a mesmer-primary so there aren't that many of us to begin with.

Allowing all the skin tones, hair colors, hair models, etc. across the board would be great as well. I appreciate that the armor reflects the primary, but couldn't we get more diversity if the models were were not class specific??
(I get real tired of (basically) looking like everyone else)

Yeah... Everyone does look the same... and tell me... why are their no Red-head Monks? Are the Gods offended by red-heads? *pouts*

Yet Red head female elementalists are very common!
At least the devs are upgrading the 15K armor in upcoming patches.

Well, we can have more models available or more armor sets. Personally I prefer armor sets.

Maybe a presumably cheap way of adding diversity is to allow all classes to use each other's hairstyles and faces, and hair colors. I dont know about the male models, but it looks like the female models have pretty similar head sizes and shapes. Why not a Elem with scary necro eyes? Or a monk with fluffy red pony tails? I'm fine with that. Let us use the stuff that's already there to the fullest extent. Oh, and more skin and hair colours. Maybe even just a RGB slider so we can choose whatever we want.
